Website Scraping
1 hour
Web scraping has existed for as long as the web itself. But suddenly, scraping no longer is a quiet front in the battle to protect application and information security. In fact, scraping exhibited the sharpest increase of all attack types last year, up 432% in the first half of 2023. There’s a clear reason: the emergence of generative AI has upended the status quo.
What can info- and app-sec teams do to protect their systems and intellectual property? In this class, students will learn both historical uses and new patterns of web scraping to illustrate its business impact. Our instructors will dive deep into the dark patterns and abuse of scraping technology to learn how attackers target travel companies, banks, social media, streaming, and other content platforms to steal intellectual property, unfairly manipulate market competition, and harvest proprietary information.
This class is for any web or app product manager, engineering manager, or app and infosec leader. You may be aware of the potential for scraping, but you want to know more about the technical characteristics of attacks, the emergent threats enabled by generative AI, and how to mitigate them.
